The "Pont du Gard"

Located in the north-east of Nīmes, this bridge is part of the ancient Roman Aquaeduct which led the spring waters from Uzčs to Nīmes. It dates back from the second part of the 1st century of our era and is one of the most important remains of antique architecture. Some blocks are more than 6 tons heavy. There are 3 different levels in this bridge which is 49 metres high and 275 metres long. After the 4th century, it was no longer used as an Aquaeduct.
