A reconstructed Roman living room

The artefacts that appear in the reconstruction of a Roman room have been based on finds from various archaeological sites around Britain give us some insight into the taste of the Romans. A reconstructed Roman kitchen

This is a typical example of a kitchen likely to be found in a Roman home. It has a simple but functional design. The jars and amphorae could contain any number of items or produce that could be obtained within the empire. Thanks to the excellent transport network unusual goods could be quite readily traded along with the local merchandise.

Combined with an accurate system of measuring the quantity of items, the Romans were able to buy and sell goods in many different sizes and volumes.

In conclusion, the impact and legacy of the Romans on Britain is very hard to define. They formed such an important part of this country’s history that it is almost impossible to separate them from anything that is important. They helped shape the course of things to come through their language, history, accomplishments, literature, legends and the monuments that they left behind which have yet to be outshone by the modern world.
